Dr Stewart is chartered as both Physicist and Engineer with over 20 years experience in Energy Technology after completing studies in Applied Physics and then postgraduate work in Oil and Gas Engineering where he was a prize winner.

He has worked as a Researcher to PhD level completing his own PhD in 1994 and supervised other PhD work and programmes and has worked as the Lead Development Engineer on a sensitive Production Equipment Development for an Industry JIP.

The Academic part of his career saw him rapidly move towards Lead for Materials Science and Engineering, Corrosion Science and Engineering and Non Destructive Testing and Evaluation Techniques as well as assessing to highest academic levels on a much wider range of Energy Engineering topics - especially upstream Oil and Gas.  As Liason Lead for the Masters programmes Dr Stewart developed strong and wide ranging links with the Energy Industry.

When Dr Stewart left academia, he did so as the Director for the Masters programmes in Oil and Gas Engineering at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen - a highly regarded provider for high level academic study in the Energy disciplines with graduates and Alumnia Worldwide.

Joining the then Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), now DECC, Dr Stewart began his time in Government as a Deputy Director, specifically addressing Technology issues for Oil and Gas and later, issues around Renewables implementation for the UK.  Later in his role as Head of Technology and Innovation, Dr Stewart also provided advice to a number of UK Energy Ministers.

Dr Stewart was instrumental in assessing potential game changing technologies and then awarding funding directly from his office as well as acting as an assessor on a wide range of other programmes and for other organisations and non-departmental bodies - eg SMART for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as on the 'A Grant for R&D' programme for England.  Dr Stewart was also heavily involved with the early stage development and evolution through to what is now the Government flagship programme for Collaborative R&D run by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) in Swindon.

In addition, Dr Stewart has regularly taken part as an assessor or judge in a number of Industry Events and Showcase highlights on the Energy Calender - eg the annual Scottish Offshore Achievement Awards hosted by the Scottish Enterprise Energy Team and the annual East of England Energy (eeegr) Innovation Awards.

Dr Stewart was also an active Board Member of ITF (Government Representative) whilst at DTI, where he helped shape direction of the organisation and bring on technologies where maximum impact could be expected for the benefit of the UK (and wider).

Dr Stewart was also a Member of the Technology Commercialisation Committee for SSUK during his time at DTI.

Throughout this period of his career, Dr Stewart continued to be an active Speaker at International Conferences all over the world as well at various Specialist Institute Events including for SPE, Institute of Corrosion and the Society of Underwater Technology.

More recently Dr Stewart has spent time with a small, innovative, Oil and Gas Technology company in Aberdeen where, as UK Regional Manager, he was directly involved in bringing next generation technology to market both internally and via collaborative programmes and JIP's.

Dr Stewart now puts this extensive and diverse set of experience and viewpoints to good use as a Special Advisor to Energy Stakeholders through this, his own Business, T-eal.
